Our 4th grade scientists were asked to design a model that would demonstrate how light can travel around a corner. Students were placed in groups and given a box (which simulated a maze), mirrors, and a laser beam. From there, students tried to figure out how they could shine the laser into a hole at one end of the box and make the light exit the hole at the opposite end of the maze. The lesson concluded as students reflected in their science journals about their experience and provided evidence of knowledge gained through this hands-on activity.
